Come in, and make yourself at home

The full history of this beautiful traditional stone house is unclear.

Probably built in the 1800s, it was acquired by our grandfather, Peter McBride, from Mr. Charlie McHugh in the late 1940’s. Our father, John, and his five siblings were raised here in the 1950’s and 60’s.

Over the years, the house has undergone some changes and witnessed people come and go. We are determined to restore this house to a functional welcoming home with modern comforts, whilst retaining the character and traditional personality it has developed in 200 years of looking out across the glorious Glenelly Valley.

Our bedrooms are designed to accentuate the heritage, history and place of the home house.

Both bedrooms are bright and brimming with natural materials. Old original wooden floors, fit perfectly with their imperfections. Traditional sliding sash windows invite you to sit by the bedside and partake in the view across the ancient Glenelly valley and Sperrin mountains.

Sleeping at the home house is not just about laying down your head. It is about having the opportunity to reflect, relax and recharge in an environment designed perfectly for the task.

Lie down, take a deep breath, and let your body rediscover its rested self. Your mind will take care of itself.

Your loyal companion deserves more too

Sometimes our pets need to unwind too. Whilst you are sipping on your tea or coffee, looking out over the valley, your furry companion is still slowly waking from their slumber on their complimentary king size raised bed. We love pets, especially dogs. We understand how much they are a part of your life, so we wouldn’t ask you to go anywhere without them.

When it comes to dining, nothing beats keeping it simple and authentic. Our kitchen and dining room is exactly that. A large traditional four-seater wooden table with bow back wooden dining chairs form the traditional centrepiece of your evening. The dining room is spacious, with a view onto our oak terrace, overlooking the valley. An original dresser houses our tableware and wine glasses. Perfect for winding down.

Cozy up in front of the stove if the weather rages outside. Lay back on our reclining sofa with a book and cup of tea. Make memories with the family with board games, or just Netflix and chill. The living room is for you to decide.

The finer details are what make a house a home. Our library nook is emblematic of the values that motivate the home house: family, heritage and place. Hide away in this unique space, and disappear into the real world. The naked pointed stone walls remind us of the authenticity of this place. An aerial photograph a reminder of our heritage from slower times. A literature collection to encourage you to reflect, relax and reconnect.

Learn to embrace you time

Our bathroom is deliberately bright and airy, taking inspiration from the main double sliding sash window that provides the best view from the house looking over the Glenelly valley. The entrance is quirky, with a short corridor drawing you into this space where you will find everything you need to engage some you time.

When you need it, it’s there

It’s great to know that when you come to the home house to escape into the wild, you still have the essentials you need for every occasion. We supply bed linen, towels, an iron, ironing board, hair dryer and clothes rack for all guests. We also offer a starter pack for the stove on request, for a small fee. Parking space for two cars is provided.

There is no therapy quite like peace, tranquillity and the aroma of nature wrapped around you. The Sperrin mountains provide the backdrop as we invite you to explore our garden. Take a tea or coffee with you on the way, and embrace the authentic sense of place. Our Barley Quartz stone garden paths guide you from our oak terrace, through a mix of beautiful flowers that stir your senses and reconnect your body and mind. Enjoy the daffodils, snow drops, tulips, hyacinths, phlox, lavender, lupins, and many others. Our Japanese maple is a delight from April through to autumn. The magnolia blossoms in early spring are an inspiring illustration of the effortless beauty of the natural world. All this, accented by our pride of place; David Austin rose collection.

oak terrace coffee mornings, afternoon teas & evening serenades

Mornings at the home house are magical, no matter the time of year. We want you to bottle up a little of that magic on our oak and natural yellow granite stone terrace. Enjoy a breakfast on our reclining deck chairs, looking south-southeast over the rolling hills as the sun peaks up over the horizon and its rays disperse invitingly through the trees. Make use of our traditional stable door to conveniently hand out items from the kitchen. Become one with your environment as you sit back with an afternoon tea to be enchanted by the evening serenade of pheasants crowing and the echoing call of the cuckoo. Our terrace really is a space to embrace the sense of heritage and place of the home house.
